Atlanta’s Top 10 Most Instagrammable Spots
Atlanta is considered by many to be the “city in the forest,” known for its greenery and, yes, its trees. But there are many areas of Atlanta that are picturesque in their own way. Everything from parks, to tunnels, gardens and universities, Atlanta has many unique sights to behold.
In this blog post, we’re going to outline the top 10 most Instagrammable spots in the great city of Atlanta.
10. The Emory Quad
Surrounded by century-old buildings constructed out of pink Georgia marble, bas-relief imagery, and red roof tiles, The Emory Quadrangle is the perfect spot for a photo sesh in between classes.
Whether you’re searching for a prime locale for a moment of rest on a breezy autumn afternoon or looking to enjoy the springtime sun, you’ll capture that collegiate chic vibe quite easily.
9. The Georgia Aquarium
The Georgia Aquarium holds the distinction of being the largest aquarium in the Western Hemisphere. And they’re not kidding–the aquarium is home to a whale shark. It’s the perfect opportunity to get an incredible photo in one of the glass tunnels (as manta rays fly over!) or snap a selfie with a couple of belugas.
8. Jackson Street Bridge
If Atlanta skyline views are what you’re seeking or if you’re merely a fan of the Walking Dead opening credits, the Jackson Street Bridge in the Sweet Auburn neighborhood is the perfect spot to get the ultimate shot. But be sure to get there for sunset; it’s the optimal time to capture Atlanta’s cityscape at its finest.
7. Piedmont Park
Located just about a ten-minute drive from Emory’s Atlanta campus, Piedmont Park is an expansive urban green space in the heart of the city.
While you can take pictures in the meadow or by Lake Clara Meer and its charming gazebo, you can also snap photos of trying your hand at a game of bocce on the bocce courts. And be sure to document enjoying a popsicle from one of the nearby carts!
6. Krog Street Tunnel
Krog Street Tunnel, which is located on Krog Street between Wylie Street and DeKalb Avenue, is a gritty, street art-adorned passageway beneath the rail line that links the historic Cabbagetown and Inman Park neighborhoods.
This place has everything: music video shoots, piano players, tourists on scooters, and an all around chill vibe with a bit of an edge. The best part about Krog Street Tunnel is that the art inside is different every time you visit–just be sure to watch the wet paint when you’re taking your snaps.
5. Carroll Street
Carroll Street is a world unto itself. Another hidden gem in Cabbagetown, the narrow alley-like thoroughfare is home to vibrant restaurants and free spirits of all kinds. Impromptu jam sessions occur here frequently, so bring your fiddle or mandolin.
Snap a picture by the Squirt soft drink mural or check out the folk art that decorates the length of the street. See if you can steal a shot of Dexter the cat; he’s the neighborhood feline with his own throne by Little’s Food Store.
4. The Depot
The Depot’s structure, located at One Eagle Row in the heart of Emory’s Atlanta campus, was constructed in 1916. It served as a station for the Seaboard Air Line Railway, and the old train tracks still sit alongside the building.
Today the Depot is home to a Kaldi’s Coffee location, a popular destination for Emory students. If you’re looking for a caffeine fix during a p.m. photo shoot, you’ll be pleased to know it’s open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays!
3. Lullwater Park Tower
Located in Lullwater Park on Emory’s Atlanta campus, the tower originally housed a generator to supply power to nearby Lullwater Estate. Today the tower is more of a ruin, and the interior is filled with writings all over the walls. Very mysterious, yet the scrawls could be possible evidence of Emory secret society meetings…
While you’re scoping out the tower, you can also visit the spillway waterfall, which provides a nice calm scene if you’re taking photos for the ‘gram.
2. Atlanta Botanical Garden
The Atlanta Botanical Garden is a 30-acre botanical garden located right next to Piedmont Park in the Midtown neighborhood of Atlanta. Since its opening nearly half a century ago, the garden has displayed some incredible greenery and blossoms year round.
It is also home to a suspended canopy walk through one of the city’s last remaining urban forests. No matter where you go, you’ll find a host of verdant photo opportunities.
1. Emory Village
Just steps from Emory’s Atlanta campus, Emory Village is a quaint, historic commercial area bustling with students and visitors alike. Like the Depot, it honors its connection to its past: the focal point in the village is the fountain sculpture, which was constructed from the old trolley rails that once ran to Emory.
Whether you’re in the mood to grab a sandwich, enjoy a picnic lunch by Peavine Creek or catch some live music in the Plaza–it’s the ultimate spot for photos!
